June

June was a very busy month for us. The fine weather had us outside a lot. We had a BBQ, Sports Day and much more.
We went shopping and spent our savings. We enjoyed this!
The girls soccer group had a party to celebrate the hard work they put in all year.
Take a look at our gallery for pictures of our school tour and other activities from the month of June. We had a great year and would like to wish everyone a lovely summer.

April/May

We had a busy few weeks with a cycle on the Greenway, Cork Sports Day, Girls Jamboree and African day.

In Maths we were learning about Capacity and 3D shapes.
As part of our African theme we focused in on the country Kenya. We learned some interesting facts and created fact-files. We did some art based on it too. We painted beautiful sunsets with animal silhouettes and patterns.
Here we are doing our weekly shopping for Cookery and making simple meals that can be made at home.
We have been doing a lot of work on our feelings and how we can learn to manage them. We wrote down some worries or fears that we had and painted them away.
We celebrated two special birthdays.

March

In Maths we were learning about Weight and Fractions. We looked at a variety of household items and estimated the weight of each item, looked at which item was the lightest/heaviest, we converted items from g into kg and vice versa.
We matched some fraction cards to help us understand fractions better and played fraction games on the IWB.
We did some miming as part of Drama. We mimed many things such as eating spaghetti, walking like an elderly woman, making a cup of tea, frying an egg and putting up an umbrella in the pouring rain.
We picked weeds and watered our cauliflower, lettuce, onions and herbs in the polytunnel. They are all coming up lovely.
As part of our St. Patrick’s Day celebrations, we made little leprechaun hats as a treat for the whole school after our traditional Irish dinner of bacon and cabbage.
For our Mother’s Day craft we made lovely cards. For our Easter craft we decorated Easter eggs and put them up as a display.
We went for a coffee morning to finish off the term. We always enjoy this!

February

In maths this month we were learning all about length. We walked around the school estimating and measuring the lengths of window sills, doors, tables, radiators, books and much more.

Our SESE theme was food so for art we did some fruit and vegetable printing. We halved the fruit and vegetables, painted them and then began printing.
In music we used different instruments to take the place of certain words in a poem called “The Sound Collector”. We really enjoyed playing the different musical instruments.

As part of SPHE we were chatting about feelings and how we can manage them. We made calming jars using glitter glue and warm water. You shake them and watch the glitter swirl around and fall to the bottom of the jar. They are very relaxing to look at.

We had a very special birthday in Seniors and as usual, we celebrated with a cake!

January

Seniors are back in the swing of things after the holidays. In Maths we were learning about 2D shapes. We took a look around the school to see what 2D shapes we could find. We then drew different shapes and cut them out.
We were learning all about the Chinese New Year and the traditions held with it. We made Chinese dragons and even made our own egg fried rice which we had with sweet and sour sauce and kung po sauce. Of course, it wouldn’t be a Chinese if we didn’t have prawn crackers!

Water was our theme for the past few weeks. We learned about the water cycle and looked at water in the environment and how each of us have an important role of trying to save water on a daily basis.
We made an underwater collage and a water droplet wind chime made by melting different shades of blue crayons with an iron.

We paired up and put our conversation skills into practice.
We practiced cooking simple meals that we can make ourselves at home. We made a cup of soup and scrambled eggs on toast.

December

What a busy month we have had! Christmas celebrations began early with a trip to the cinema, our Christmas show, a coffee morning, Christmas dinner and Santa came to visit us. We also had a special birthday.

November

We had a busy month in Seniors. We were working hard as always.
In cookery we made chocolate logs and a Christmas pudding. We made sure to make a wish when stirring the mixture!

We finished our jigsaws in woodwork and we cannot wait for our next project.
One of our themes for the month was Dungarvan so we had a trip to the Museum and Art Gallery. We really enjoyed these.

We are preparing for Christmas and are looking forward to December as we have such a fun month ahead of us.

October flew by for Seniors! We were busy learning all about the solar system. Look at what we made.
In Maths we were learning about Time.

For Maths Week we went on a Maths Trail around the school.
As part of biodiversity we went on a nature walk and collected different items. We designed posters to help people become aware of the importance of biodiversity.

September has been a busy month. We were learning about Transport and the various types used long ago and today. We each picked a type such as aircraft, trains, cars, boats and bicycles. We researched and learned all about them. In Art we made hot-air balloons and boats sailing on the sea.
