June
June has been such a busy month for the Leavers. We had our school tour, hillwalk in the Knockmealdowns, summer BBQ, graduation lunch, graduation mass, walk on the greenway, cinema trip, pizza party, tag rugby in Waterford, trip to the beach and sports day...... we barely saw the inside of the classroom!!!!
When we did get to spend some time in the classroom we focused on the topic of electricity. We learned all about safety when it comes to electricity and we made circuits to light a bulb. We got very technical when we were given the challenge of lighting two bulbs, making the car move and making a lighthouse.
We had a coffee morning to celebrate a special 18th birthday.
We got busy in the kitchen making our own homemade ice-cream. As you can see we really enjoyed sampling the finished product. It was delicious.
We were very lucky to have a dance lesson with Aine who taught us a modern hip-hop dance. Check out the photo of us busting moves!!!
As a class we had a think about how we could spend the leftover money from the Christmas markets. We decided on pizza and the cinema so we ordered lots of pizza and really enjoyed a pizza party with music and chatting. As you can imagine we didn't have many leftovers!!
Congratulations to our Leavers Class of 2017. It was a pleasure to have had their company in St. John's and we wish them all the best for the future.
Gaisce Adventure Journey 2017
The Leavers class braved the wind and rain on Friday March 3rd to complete their trek for the Gaisce Bronze award. This all took place in Cushkinny, Cobh Co.Cork. We set off early Friday morning and began the first leg of our trek. Weather conditions as you can see from the pictures were challenging however this made it more fun. Part of the trek was through the beautiful Marloag woods.
That evening we returned to camp for a well deserved hot shower. We set off again to complete the Titanic experience which we found very interesting. Later that evening we prepared a meal in a self catering kitchen. We had a visit from our leader Chris and lit a campfire and toasted marshmallows. We also had a sing song and had a really enjoyable evening.
It was another early start on Saturday morning to prepare for the days activities, grass sledging and a squirell trail.
Everybody really enjoed the challenges and a great weekend was had by all.
WELL DONE TO ALL INVOLVED !!!

Cookery
Pancake Tuesday We made some delicious pancakes this year. Unfortunately our pancake flipping skills weren't up to scratch and some of the pancakes ended up on the floor!!. We had Nutella, and sugar & lemon for our toppings. Healthy Pizzas We also made some healthy pizzas using Pitta bread, rashers and cheese. This was a simple recipe that the leavers class thought of themselves. |

Rights and Responsibilites
Through our SPHE programme students gained a sense of self-awareness and the ability to distinguish one's own feelings from the feelings of others.
From studying scenarios students learned about taking another person’s perspective "putting oneself in another person's shoes".
As Leavers we felt this was a very important topic to cover at the beginning of the year.
